The public is invited to join the League of Women Voters of the North Country and Clinton County Historical Association members to mark the Centennial Anniversary of the adoption of the Nineteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution which prohibits the states and the federal government from denying the right to vote to citizens of the United States on the basis of sex.

Street Drive - Cancelled

Dr. William Beaumont Presentation

Bridge Street Bridge Dedication Presentation

The dedication of the Stone Arch Bridge on Bridge Street in Plattsburgh in 1930 was attended by over 5,000 people. Join Roger Black at the MHAB Life Skills Campus on Thursday, June 17th for a 6:30 pm for a talk about the bridge, the downtown area and to view photos of the event.

Cemetery Tour of the Town of Peru

Volunteers will give a Cemetery  Tour of the Town of Peru including the histories of three cemeteries in the village and the Quaker cemetery. Lunch will be included. $15 for CCHA members. $20 for non-members  Register at 518-561-0340.

Summer Sundays at The Bluff Point Lighthouse

The public is invited to visit the historic Bluff Point Lighthouse on Valcour Island each Sunday in July and August beginning July 4th. Transportation to the Lighthouse is the responsibility of the individual. Guided tours of the lighthouse are provided, and visitors will receive the Valcour Island Heritage Trail Guide.

Point Au Roche and Ingraham Cemetery Tours

The Clinton County Historical Association is pleased to sponsor a tour of two cemeteries on August 14th in recognition of the Town of Beekmantown Bicentennial Plus One Commemoration. The tours will be hosted by Carl Gonya and will begin at 9:30 am at the Point Au Roche Cemetery in Beekmantown and conclude at the Ingraham Cemetery in Chazy.

Relics of War — Artifacts of the War of 1812

On Monday, August 16, 6:30 pm at the Plattsburgh House of Prayer, 63 Broad Street, Plattsburgh, Peter Sorrell, a Lyon Mountain native and area historian, will discuss his pursuit of War of 1812 artifacts through his metal detecting in the North Country. Clinton County History Museum Opens!

The Clinton County Historical Association Museum at 98 Ohio Avenue, Old Base Museum Campus Commemorates the Battle of Plattsburgh With the Aikin Rifle Story, new exhibits, Arto Monaco’s historic diorama and Tours of the val. The museum will  open September 9th to 12th from 10 am to 4 pm. There will be tours of the Oval each day at 1:30 pm.

On September 23, 2021, at 7:00 PM, the Bicentennial Committee of the Town of Beekmantown will present The Story of “Junior Plattsburg” on Point Au Roche. Dr. Richard Frost, a retired physician and author of multiple historical columns and books, will tell the story of the camp, its purpose, and the activities conducted.

The Clinton County Historical Association and Town of Clinton Historian Rebecca LeClair will be hosting a cemetery tour on October 2nd . The tour will start at 9:30 am at the original Immaculate Heart of Mary Cemetery at the intersection of Clinton Mills Rd and State Route 189, concluding at 1:30 with lunch at Dick’s Country Store.

New Exhibit: Prohibition Era (1920-1933)

The new exhibit Rum Across the Border Revisited, opening November 10th at the Clinton County Historical Association Museum, is like no other. Visitors will experience a Speakeasy complete with a Jazz band, a diorama that depicts a bootlegger’s trail complete with the Gulf in Mooers, a famous Rt 9 trail, a still operation and a miniature County speakeasy.  The exhibit is open 10 am to 3 pm, November 10 to 13 and November 17 to 20.

Holiday Open House

Clinton County Historical Association Museum at 98 Ohio Avenue, Old Base Museum Campus, Plattsburgh 10 am to 3 pm, December 11th and 12th. CCHA houses the largest selection of Clinton County history books (new and used) for sale in the North Country. Special gift packages have been prepared for the museum shop and all exhibit rooms will be open.

Women’s Equality Day Commemoration

On August 26th women across the United States will be commemorating Women’s Equality Day Noon to 2 pm, August 26th Ausable Chasm Pavilion. This day was set aside in 1971 as an annual event to celebrate the adoption of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution on August 26th, 1920, to raise awareness about the importance of gender equality and to commemorate the work and sacrifices made by women during the suffrage movement.

Patriot Founders of Clinton County

At 6:00 pm, Tuesday, September 6th, 2022 House of Prayer, 63 Broad Street, Plattsburgh, researcher Desmond Meacham will share the stories of ten of the nearly 150 patriots of the Revolutionary War who founded different towns, villages, and hamlets in Clinton County. Questions and a discussion of this research will be welcomed. This event is free and open to the public.

The Catholic Summer School of America in Cliff Haven 1896-1941

A Photo History of the Catholic Summer School in Cliff Haven, NY will be presented by Roger Black September 27 - 6:30 pm at the Lake Forest Senior Living Community, 8 Lake Forest Drive, Plattsburgh. His talk on the history of CSSA from its establishment in 1896 until its last season in 1941 includes many photos of the unique cottages which housed up to 1,200 residents per week who went there for lectures, recreation and socializing.

Entertainers of Clinton County - 1935 to 2000

Join us on October 4 th , 6:00 pm at the House of Prayer, 63 Broad Street, with with Marco Mero for photos and remembrances of our favorite bands over the years and the bars they played in. Marco is a lifelong resident of Clinton County and has performed as a singer and musician since the early 1960’s. He is the author of 75 years of Music: The Bands of Clinton County New York.

John McKenna’s Plattsburgh – 1975

In 1975 John McKenna, a local architect, took a series of photographs and slides of various commercial enterprises throughout streets in the City of Plattsburgh.  On November 22nd William D. Laundry and Helen Nerska of the Clinton County Historical Association will present a program at 6:45 pm to discuss his findings at Lake Forest Retirement Community, 8 Lake Forest Drive, Plattsburgh. During this walk down memory lane, you will revisit 1970's Plattsburgh with a unique tour from the Spinning Wheel to the Chez! The presentation will share many of his pictures of storefronts with slides of various architectural details.
