Clinton County has a unique and rich place in America's past
The Clinton County Historical Association is dedicated to preserving Clinton County's heritage. With its museum and historic sites, the Association reveals the way County's inhabitants lived and worked for over three hundred years. Visitors see how Clinton County evolved from a forested wilderness into a farming community and on to become a transportation and mining center in the Northeast during the 19th Century.
The area is rich in military history from the French and Indian War, the American Revolution and the War of 1812, hosted a military presence almost continuously until the loss of Plattsburgh Air Force Base in 1995.

Many Canadian manufacturers and distributors are located in the area, taking advantage of the close proximity and trading ties between the U.S. and Canada. Local educational institutions include Plattsburgh State University and Clinton Community College
