This Hotel Champlain Golf Cup is an exquisite example
of the sterling silver trophies presented in golf competitions in the
early 1900s. Notice the art deco swans lovingly crafted into the handles
of the cup. The well-to-do nature of the Hotel’s clientele is
underscored by the cup’s being crafted entirely of sterling silver.
Presented by J. Clarence Davies, probably a frequent guest at the Hotel,
it was first won by Wilbur S. Roberts in 1916, Joseph L. Nash in 1917,
and by Charles Goodwin in 1918 and 1925. Nash and Goodwin were local
golfers. Goodwin, president of the Plattsburgh Golf Club 1924-1927, was
a scratch golfer in the Conway Cup competitions during the 1920s. The
trophy is now in the safekeeping of the Clinton County Historical
Association and has been brought back to use after a 79-year hiatus by
our Annual Adirondack Hickory Open.

Matthew Dodds presents the trophy to last year’s winner,
Randy Jensen.
We have made a new base, upon which we place engraved
plaques of our ADK Hickory Open winners. We encourage you to come see
the trophy on display at this year’s event: July 29th and 30th!
